India’s Largest Retail Development Creates Ideal Shopping Environment The Great India Place makes decisions on comfort, efficiency and the bottom line New Delhi, November 20, 2007 – It’s no surprise that more comfortable shoppers who are more comfortable shop longer and buy more. So how do retail developers and shopping mall owners create an ideal shopping environment while being sustainable and responsible to the bottom line? Especially when utility costs are about one third of their total operating budget? With more than 1.5 million square feet of mixed-use space, The Great India Place, one of India’s largest retail destinations, combining world-class theme parks, cinemas, restaurants and shops into a single ‘shoppertainment’ destination, has decided to link their operations and facilities to the bottom line. Working with Trane, a leading global supplier for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and services, The Great India Place, has taken an integrated approach to its operations and building systems to meet its goals of comfort, efficiency, control and manageable life cycle costs. The Great India Place will achieve this vision through a Tracer SummitTM Building Management System, which is designed to optimize operations for best efficiency to cool occupants throughout the retail destination. “Today’s competitive demands on retail developments require them to provide a world-class, comfortable shopping and work environment for customers and employees respectively,” said Manoj Mathur, business leader for Trane in India. “Making the right systems selections, retailers can reduce operating costs, increase customer comfort, increase employee productivity and drive sales.” Indian retail is expanding at a rapid pace driven by changing lifestyles, strong income growth and favorable demographic patterns. According to AT Kearney’s annual Global Retail Development Index (GRDI), the country may have 600 new shopping centers by 2010. Mall space is expected to touch an estimated 60 million square feet by end-2008. Situated near Sector 18, right at the entrance of Noida, The Great India Place is a retail and entertainment complex as part of Entertainment City, an international standard amusement park. Spanning 1.5 million square feet, this will be the largest retail development in India. The developer, International Recreation Parks Pvt. Ltd. is a joint venture of Unitech Ltd. Trane has been providing HVAC systems, services and solutions to customers in India since 1993. Trane systems can be found in leading luxury hotel chains, commercial buildings, malls, and pharmaceutical companies. Trane’s approach is to look at building systems as a long-term asset, ensuring that they are energy efficient and perform the way that was promised.
