Flipkart Forays Into Grocery Delivery For Selected customers

Months after e-commerce giant Flipkart launched grocery services for its employees on a pilot basis, selected customers in Bangalore were privileged to enjoy the Flipkart grocery delivery service. In a first, the e-tailer launched its delivery service ‘Supermart’ on its mobile app for a few select set of customers.

Like its other deliveries, Flipkart has mandated a minimum order for delivery with customers having to place a minimum order of Rs 500 and orders above Rs 1,000 are eligible for free delivery.

While the select grocery delivery is only a soft launch, Flipkart plans to make scale up to provide its services to all its customers in Bengaluru, and in future, other cities.

According to reports, Flipkart will offer open-box delivery in a bid to verify products before accepting them and will enable doorstep returns. It is said that a dedicated supply chain for its grocery service.

It seems to be an interesting year for the grocery sector with Paytm and Amazon too showing interests in grocery delivery services. While many reports suggest that Paytm Mall is in talks with BigBasket to buy a significant stake and expand its service in the grocery sector, Amazon Now has tie-ups with Big Bazaar and Hypercity for grocery delivery.
