Amazon has witnessed a spike in fake orders during the festive season sale

Amazon has witnessed a spike in fake orders during the festive season sale, mainly from rural areas, multiple sellers said.

The communication to the sellers added that while the company was attempting to close the investigation soon, the festive sale rush could delay the process. E-commerce companies typically see about 10-15% of their orders getting cancelled/ returned but the festive sale has seen higher numbers because of these fake orders.

A seller on amazon who received fake order said “We will face huge penalties because of these fake orders since we have to pay a fine if we don't ship the orders on time and then these orders get cancelled, forcing us to shell out other fees for logistics. Seeing the sudden uptick, we contacted the people who have placed these orders and it seems most of them came via Vakrangee.”

Vakrangee is one of the partners of Amazon for assisting shopping. To tap the rural market, the Seattle-based company's local arm has been running a project called Udaan where it partners with shops and small businesses to help people purchase on Amazon.

Another top seller on the platform said, “Sellers are being made to suffer financially due to low credibility of COD orders in e-commerce marketplaces. If marketplaces want to charge sellers for returns, then the system should be transparent and accommodate the feedback of sellers who are losing money due to such instances.“
