Our planet is in dire need of environmental protection, the rapid increase in industrialization has left little green patches on the face of earth. So the new generation retailers think that it is their time to fix the damage by going green.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency in India has identified the retail industry as an energy-intensive industry. The central government has stricter plans to curb the demand for energy by enforcing stricter laws on the Corporate making the self dependent on future requirements.

According to Sameer Barde, Assistant Secretary General, Retail, at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, there is an urgent need for retailers in India to think green but the concept is still blossoming in the country.

According to Shubhadra Saini, In India the dominant unorganized retailers don't prioritize environment sustainability factors, even though it is possible to reduce the cost by 20-25% by adapting green practices at their stores.

Retailing being a prominent industry in India, contributing 14-15% of country's GDP, it is the right time to think, act and sell green in order to build better living conditions tomorrow.

Organizations can also gain benefits by going green.

Here are some of the interesting and profitable eco-friendly business ideas for the aspiring startup owners:

1. Organic Food Products Store:

This generation is more focused on their health as well as the planet’s health, which is why they are all turning organic. The vegetarian and non-vegetarian difference is long gone.

The budding startups can help connect the famers with the customers and recycle the lifecycle. Bridging the gap of customer and farmers has been exploited enough by the middlemen, FDI and Make in India has brought on the business revolution in the country.

Organic food products are most in demand like never before, which is why the opportunities for startups has swollen to the walls, bringing in health and business to the economy.

2. Green Waste Management:

The existential space for all the living beings is reduced due to the growing buildings everywhere, leaving less space for plants, trees and agriculture, where as the waste accumulation too has increased, the startups can come up with green waste management business.

Through green waste management, the wastes can be formulated to make manure, fertilizer and plastics can be reused through different products.

The used wooden and electronic items, which are thrown away after use can be reused with the help of technology and that where green waste management startups come into play.

According to Arti Singh, senior Vice-president, corporate affairs, Bharti Wal-Mart, the sustainability efforts in retailing in India are developed around three corporate goals namely renewable energy, zero waste, and sustainable products. Also the company is actively engaging suppliers, customers and government in this initiative.
