Consolidation moves in the e-commerce market in the country seems to be prompting offline companies to change tracks in states like Kerala.

Alapatt Super Shoppe, a part of Alapatt group, which has a strong presence in gold and diamonds market, has ventured into e commerce by launching a fully secured online shopping portal.

Jose Alapatt, Chairman, Alapatt group, said, "Initially the e-commerce services will be available in Kerala with free home delivery available in six central districts including Kochi for large appliance."

The group will spread the model across the state and to other south Indian states in phases.

The company claims to be the first offline appliances retailer in the state to go online.

N Ravanan, CEO, Alapatt Global, said, "To begin with 2000 products from leading brands will be available in online store will all payment options."

The company will also bring out an app to facilitate the shopping process in a week. Of the estimated Rs 1 lakh crore e commerce business happening in the country, Kerala accounts for 7 to 8%.

Ravanan said, "The business set to expand four times in the next four years. So we thought it is the right time to jump in."
