A man who gambled on branded apparel industry much before it was considered chic in India, Shailesh Chaturvedi, CEO, Tommy Hilfiger India has been part of the branded apparel industry for over 15 years. As the luxury market evolves in India, Shailesh has the task to make Tommy a name to recognised within India. 


Shubhra Saini (SS): Do you believe that retail industry is reviving with the revival of economy?  
Shailesh Chaturvedi (SC):
Since past one year we are growing, this summer we have registered 50 per cent growth. And for a brand like us, we know that we will grow in coming years.

SS: Are you expecting your profit margins to go up by the end of this fiscal year?  
SC:
We are sure that our profit margins will definitely go up this year. We are quite optimistic that with the rise in GDP and purchasing power of people, our profit margins will also grow.

SS: What are your expansion plans?  
SC:
We are aggressively expanding; we have opened our shops in Jaipur, Patiala and Lucknow. We are present in 14 cities of India. No other foreign brand has expanded the way we have.

 Yes, we will be hiring staff for our new retail points, in this way retail sector will help increase employment in the country.

SS: Has slowdown helped retailers and real estate in coming together?  
SC:
Now, there is a better dialogue happening between retailers and real estate giants. Now they are not unreasonable with their demands, but still there is lot that can be improved.
