New Delhi: US based electronics major Apple plans to open 500 'iOS' stores in India and the expansion will also mark its entry into smaller towns and cities, says a Times of India report.
Sources informed TOI that Apple has decided to get serious about the India business and have started overhauling the entire distribution framework, according to the report.
For the new cities, Apple is reportedly planning smaller stores which will be accommodated in 300-600 sq ft against over 2,000 sq ft size of existing stores in tier I cities.
A franchise model is expected to be adopted for this and could be now spearheaded by Brightstar, says the TOI report.
The expansion is expected to cover smaller towns and cities like Amritsar, Pathankot, Moga, Coimbatore, Trichy, Nagpur and Nasik.
Apple has decided to appoint global retail giant Brightstar to sell its devices in India, reported Times New Network.
The US-headquartered Brightstar, owned by Japanese company Softbank, has secured distribution rights of mobile phones and other devices to more than 200 carriers in over 50 countries.
'Brightstar will soon start distributing Apple devices in India and is expected to emerge as one of the most aggressive players in the market,' TOI report quoted industry sources as saying.
Brightstar has already started working on its India plan and it is expected that it will launch its operation in Northern India first.
